Activating Chat Agents with Facebook & Instagram Comments
- Automation #1 – When someone comments with a specific keyword on your Instagram post.
- Automation #2 – When someone direct messages (DMs) you with a specific keyword.
Both automations will apply a tag (activating your AI agent) and prompt the user for their email to send more info.
1. Prerequisites
- Instagram & Facebook Integration
- Go to Settings → Integrations in your WellGrow account.
- Connect your Facebook Page and ensure your Instagram Business account is also linked.
- This is critical for monitoring comments and DMs.
- Active Tag & AI Agent
- Ensure you’ve created or assigned a tag (e.g., “Olivia_WellGrow”) to activate your AI agent.
- Have your AI agent (e.g., “Olivia”) set up with a basic prompt and conversation flow.
- Organized Folder for Automations
- (Optional but recommended) Create a dedicated folder in Automation to keep workflows tidy.
2. Building the Instagram Comment Automation
This automation activates when someone comments with a specific keyword (e.g., “results”) on your Instagram post.
2.1 Creating the Workflow
- Navigate to Automations
- In WellGrow, click Automation on the left menu.
- Create a New Workflow or open an existing one in your “Instagram” or “Social Media” folder.
- Add New Trigger
- Click Add New Trigger → Search for Instagram Comments on a Post.
- Configure the following:
- Instagram Page: Choose the account you integrated.
- Specific or Any Post: Select whether the automation applies to a single post or all posts.
- Comment Keyword: Type your exact keywords (e.g., “results,” “Results,” “RESULTS”).
- Use “Exact Match” if you want it case-sensitive, or set multiple variations to cover uppercase/lowercase.
- Track Only First Level Comments: Turn this on if you only want direct comments (not replies to comments).
- Apply Tags
- After the trigger, click the + icon to add an Action → Add/Remove Tag.
- Select your AI activation tag (e.g., “IG Lead,” “Olivia WellGrow”).
- This ensures your AI agent is ready to respond once the comment is detected.
- Send Instagram DM
- Next Action: Instagram DM.
- In the Message box, type your initial reply. Example:
Hey there! I see you commented "results" – drop me your email and I'll send the details right over.
- Add Wait Step
- + → Wait. Choose 1 Minute (or any delay you prefer).
- This simulates a more “human” delay and gives the user time to respond.
- Create an If/Else Condition
- Click + → If/Else (Condition). Configure as follows:
- Condition: Contact → Email → Is Not Empty
- Branch 1: “Email is Populated”
- Branch 2: “Email is Empty”
- Condition: Contact → Email → Is Not Empty
- Click + → If/Else (Condition). Configure as follows:
- Branch 1: If Email is Populated
- Send Email Action:
- Subject: “Here’s the info you requested!”
- Body Example:
Hi {{contact.first_name}}, Thanks for your interest! Check out these details: [Link or content here] Let me know if you have any questions. - YourName
- Send Instagram DM Action (optional follow-up after emailing):
- Example Message:
Just sent you an email from [Your Email]. Check your inbox (or spam) and let me know if you have any trouble finding it!
- Example Message:
- Send Email Action:
- Branch 2: If Email is Empty
- Send Instagram DM:
- Example:
Hey, I noticed you didn’t drop your email yet. If you still want the info, just reply with your email address!
- Example:
- (Optional) Wait again for user input, then create another If/Else to see if they eventually provide an email.
- Loop back to the email-sending sequence once they do give their email.
- Send Instagram DM:
- Save
- Click Save at the top or bottom of the workflow to ensure your changes are stored.
3. Building the Instagram DM Keyword Automation
This workflow triggers when a user direct messages you with a specific keyword (e.g., “fit”).
3.1 Creating the Workflow
- Add New Trigger
- From your Automations area, Add New Trigger → Customer Replied.
- Under the Reply Channel dropdown, select Instagram DM.
- Add a Filter → Exact Match for a keyword (e.g., “fit,” “Fit,” “FIT”).
- If you have multiple keywords (“fit,” “motivation,” “results”), handle them either as separate triggers or with multiple filters.
- Apply Tag
- Next Action: Add/Remove Tag → Apply your AI agent tag (e.g., “Olivia WellGrow”).
- This signals your system to engage the AI agent for subsequent messages.
- Send Instagram DM
- Example first message:
Cool, send me your best email and I’ll shoot over the details you're looking for!
- Example first message:
- Wait
- Insert a Wait step (e.g., 1 minute).
- If/Else Condition
- Condition: Email is Not Empty vs. Email is Empty.
- This logic is similar to the previous automation:
- If an Email is provided, send an Email → Send a DM confirming it’s been sent.
- If an Email is not provided, send a DM prompting them again.
- Save & Test
- Click Save.
- Use a personal Instagram account to DM your page with the chosen keyword (e.g., “fit”).
- Watch the workflow trigger and verify you receive the automated reply.
4. Facebook Versions (Optional)
- Facebook DM Keyword
- Same approach as Instagram:
- Trigger: Customer Replied → Channel: Facebook Messenger → Filter on Keyword.
- Actions: Tag + DM + Wait + If/Else.
- Same approach as Instagram:
- Facebook Comment Keyword
- Use the Facebook Comment trigger instead of Instagram Comment.
- Everything else remains the same: you apply tags, send a DM, wait, and conditionally email the user.
5. Final Testing & Best Practices
- Multiple Keywords
- Keep in mind that each trigger typically handles one keyword set. If you want more variations, either add them in filters or create separate triggers.
- Delay vs. Instant
- Adjust the Wait steps as needed. If you want an immediate DM, set Wait to 0.
- Check Integrations
- If the workflow isn’t firing, confirm your Facebook/Instagram integration in Settings → Integrations.
- Inbox & Spam
- Remind users to check their spam folder if they don’t see your email. You can also configure better deliverability by verifying your sending domain.
- Refine & Expand
- As you collect feedback, refine the messages, add more steps (e.g., “Wait 1 day, send a reminder DM”), or incorporate your AI agent’s advanced logic for further Q&A.
By following these detailed steps, you’ll have two powerful automations running on Instagram: one for post comments and another for direct messages with specific keywords. Both sequences gather user emails, activate your AI agent (via tags), and automatically deliver the information that prospects request—turning casual Instagram engagement into actionable leads and conversations.
